Review:
One of the first things that stood out to me while reading was the illustrations. They were so beautifully done in a collage format that offered up different textiles and created really awe inspiring photos. I also appreciated the author's use of Dr. King's own words from some of his speeches. I thought it was explained very eloquently for the targeted age group. I also really liked the end that supplied a timeline as well as web resources for further learning. Written as a narrative nonfiction biography I thought the story flowed and moved with the right amount of space, creating moments of discussion throughout.

The Caldecott Medal

I love this book and suggest it to just about anyone that is looking for a good easy Biography of MLK. The pictures are beautiful and the information is easy to follow. My teenage son read MLK biographies last year and shared his thoughts with me about them. This was his favorite by far. I love when teens can relate to and use picture books. Martin's Big Words is a title that should be on every public library and school library shelf. It's that good.
